The Southern District Health Board has established an
advisory committee to guide planning for changes to how the
elderly receive care.
Draft terms of reference for the health of older persons
planning advisory committee are included in a report to
today's disability support and community and public health
advisory committee.
The committee would report directly to finance and funding
general manager Robert Mackway-Jones, who is also the
committee chairman. Meetings would be held four times a year
and would be closed to the public.
The committee would help oversee a plan which aims to keep
older people at home as long as possible, establishing
clinical care networks in the community.
Members of the wide-ranging committee included
representatives from nursing, pharmacy, allied health,
consumers, Age Concern, aged care providers, Southern Primary
Health Organisation, and Maori health.
The committee's inaugural meeting was held last week in
Balclutha.
