Building fails seismic rules

A second mental health service building in Dunedin, in Union St, does not meet seismic strength requirements, a report to the Southern District Health Board's hospitals' advisory committee today says.

The building was used for outpatient mental health services, for which the DHB was seeking an alternative venue.

Last month, the DHB moved 15 inpatients from the 110-year-old Hulme House, in High St, to private provider Ashburn Clinic, while a permanent solution was found.

At Southland Hospital, the boiler house, the boiler house chimney and the Well Child building were found not to comply with the code.

The assessments were preliminary and the final seismic report was awaited, a report from Otago chief operating officer Vivian Blake said.
