Rumours go Gaga on who's coming to Dunedin stadium

Lady Gaga will play a gig in Auckland in June.
Lady Gaga will play a gig in Auckland in June.
Dunedin Venues Management Ltd (DVML) is remaining tight-lipped over the next big name act to perform at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Yesterday it was confirmed Lady Gaga would perform at Auckland's Vector Arena on June 7 as part of her Born This Way Ball world tour.

Her next scheduled performance was on June 13 in Brisbane, fuelling speculation she might perform another New Zealand show if the 12,000 Auckland arena sells out.

Questions from the Otago Daily Times on the next big act to perform at Forsyth Barr Stadium and whether it would be Lady Gaga were answered by DVML management with the reply: "No comment".

"We are also not going to speculate on any upcoming concert information," a spokeswoman said.

Last year DVML chief executive David Davies said he was confident of securing at least two major touring acts this year.

Possible touring acts in Australasia this year include Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath, Lady Gaga, Madonna, the Rolling Stones and Radiohead.

Also rumoured to be coming to New Zealand is British pop band Coldplay, which is expected to confirm an Australasian tour later this year.

Lead singer Chris Martin is no stranger to Dunedin after staying in the city in 2003 while his then soon-to-be wife Gwyneth Paltrow was filming the biopic Sylvia.

Yawn

Predictable response from H.O.T., to whom (and her coterie) the mere mention of "stadium" and "possible event" in the same sentence, will always generate a "it can't be possible" response.

Cautious news item

Lady Gaga might do another NZ concert if Auckland's 12,000-ticket Arena sells out.  In her position what would I do, I pondered.  I think I'd say to the boys, after the show leave all the gear set up here instead of packing it up and taking it to a little town down in the South Island, because from what I've been told people from down there who were mad keen to see me already travelled up here for tonight's show.

She's a smart businesswoman under all the crazy outfits.  Unless she's got involved with dim-bulb management for her Australasian tour she will be aware that Dunedin is not easy to get to, for those fans who missed out on tickets to her Auckland show.  So I won't be holding my breath.

The article goes on to relay rumours and speculation about "Possible touring acts" "Also rumoured".  Careful vagueness is partnered with fairy-dust visions of entertainment glory,  from Lady Gaga "...fuelling speculation she might..." to Coldplay with the desperate little hanging-onto-coat-tails reminder that "Lead singer Chris Martin is no stranger to Dunedin".  As an earlier star Doris Day sang back in when mild cheddar with a chunk of tinned pineapple on a toothpick signified sophistication, "Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps."
