Work on the three-bedroom house, which will be auctioned by Harcourts to raise money for the chair of neurosurgery campaign, started on Saturday.
Mitre 10 Mega and Certified Builders lead a team of tradespeople who are giving time and materials towards the project.
Mitre 10 Mega trade manager Chris Bremner said everything was going to schedule on the construction site in the store's car park on Andersons Bay Rd.
The roof was to be fixed on today, the windows would be installed on Wednesday and insulation on Friday, before work began on the interior, Mr Bremner said.
Harcourts saleswoman Jane Bradshaw said she offered to volunteer for the fundraising campaign, which aimed to raise $3 million to help fund a neurosurgical centre of excellence, when she read about it in the Otago Daily Times.
"I saw it in the paper and rang Irene [Mosley, the campaign manager] and asked if there was anything I could do ... next thing there is a house being built," she said.
She did not know how much the house would sell for, but hoped to get "the maximum".
Marketing will begin when the house is complete, in about three weeks, and it will be auctioned on site on April 21.
