Neurosurgery candidate

The University of Otago has a favoured candidate for the post of inaugural professor of the Neurological Foundation Chair in Neurosurgery.

The candidate would be offered the role in the next few weeks, health sciences pro-vice-chancellor Prof Peter Crampton said.

The three short-listed candidates, from Germany and Belgium, were interviewed last Thursday. All three were excellent candidates, he said.

The professor would lead neurosurgery research at the university, and work as a third neurosurgeon at Dunedin Hospital.

A $3 million public fundraising drive is under way to endow the chair which so far has raised more than $2.26 million.

Fundraising project manager Irene Mosley said the latest major donation was $30,000 from the Callis Trust, in Dunedin.
