Moana Pool's popular children's facility is open again in
time for the last days of the term break.
The leisure pool, a favourite of children and parents because
of its shallow depth, waves, river, massaging water features
and toddlers' play area, was closed for maintenance on July
2.
The Dunedin City Council's decision to close the pool during
school holidays upset many parents, who said it was a
struggle to keep children occupied during the winter break.
Council aquatic services manager Steve Prescott said the pool
was busier during school terms than in holidays, and it was
harder to allocate other pool space to children during the
term.
It was a matter of best using pool resources at times when
maintenance had to occur.
Mr Prescott hoped the leisure pool could be opened after the
first week of maintenance but had erred on the side of
caution.
The leisure pool was reopened to the public yesterday
morning, with normal hours of operation, a pool employee
said.
Maintenance included fixing spots of rust and replacing or
repairing broken tiles.
