Police seek information after pharmacy robbed

Police are appealing for information after the aggravated robbery of a Dunedin pharmacy this month.

A Pakeha man in his late 30s and of medium to solid build was agitated, and aggressive towards staff, during the robbery of Forbury Pharmacy at 5.25pm on Wednesday, July 4, Detective John MacDade said.

The offender used a large knife and threatened staff if they did not comply with his demands, before making off with a large amount of medicine and pills, including Ritalin and other prescription medicine, Det MacDade said.

The man used a balaclava or hat pulled over his face to conceal his identity.

After leaving the pharmacy, he ran across Hillside Rd towards Ruskin Tce.

Police were concerned the medicines were still out in the community, and might be sold or passed on to others. People taking medicines not prescribed for them risked adverse side effects.

The man's aggressive manner, his threats to staff and the fact a knife was used were also concerning factors.

Dunedin police wanted to to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour on the day of the incident, or had contact with anyone offering to sell, or in possession of, prescription medicines.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Det MacDade on (03) 471-4800.
