Five young Dunedin ballet dancers are preparing to have a ball this weekend.

The quick-stepping quintet were selected to star in the latest Royal New Zealand Ballet production Cinderella at the Regent Theatre tonight and tomorrow.

"It's fantastic to have them join in with us," RNZB lead dancer Sir Jon Trimmer said yesterday.

"They get an idea of what life is like as a dancer and to perform in front of a big audience."

The three girls and two boys, who are aged between 9 and 13, will play the young Cinderella, her two stepsisters and pageboys.
