Stadium to host winery tour concert

Another concert has been confirmed for Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The 2013 Classic Hits Winery Tour will be held in the stadium on February 17 next year.

The previous two winery tour concerts in Dunedin were held at Logan Park.

"The stadium is ideal, because you can take the weather out of it. That makes a big difference to the promoters, musicians and the punters," Civic Events promoter Brent Eccles said from Auckland yesterday.

"Also, logistically, it means we don't have to build a stage."

Despite previous concerns about sound quality in the stadium, the promoters had "checked it out and are satisfied", Mr Eccles said.

"It will be more of a boutique event. It won't be as big as Elton. We're probably expecting around 3000 people."

Waitiri Creek Wines in the Gibbston valley will also host a concert, on February 19.

The winery tour started in 2007 as a showcase of New Zealand music and musicians and previous tours have featured Bic Runga, Boh Runga, Brooke Fraser, Anika Moa, Dave Dobbyn, Opshop, Gin Wigmore and the Mutton Birds.

The 2013 line-up will be announced on October 25.
