Pony club hay theft prompts offers

Ponies at the West Harbour Pony Club in Sawyers Bay will not go hungry, thanks to the generosity of strangers.

Between 30 and 50 bales of hay were stolen from the pony club's storage shed last week, leaving members out of pocket.

Vice-president Marie Dewar said since an Otago Daily Times article on the theft was published, the club had received offers of hay.

"It has restored our faith in humanity and made a lot of mothers cry in happiness. There are some lovely people in the world."

The club had recently increased its security.

Police are investigating the theft.
