Police stake-out nabs milk theft suspect

A 45-year-old South Dunedin man is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court charged in relation to a series of milk thefts throughout the suburb.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said police caught the man stealing milk from a residential South Dunedin property at 6am on Monday, during a "stake-out" of the area.

The police surveillance was prompted by reports of missing milk.

It had been an issue for a while, Snr Sgt Benn said.

• A 20-year-old Dunedin man has been arrested in relation to the theft of a 1990 Toyota van and items from the vehicle.

Snr Sgt Benn said the van was offered to a scrap metal dealer about 11.30am on Monday.

It had been reported stolen from a Dunedin property on Sunday.

The 20-year-old was due to appear in court on Thursday charged with unlawfully taking a vehicle and theft from a vehicle.

The van and its contents, including tools and fishing gear, were recovered by police, Snr Sgt Benn said.

• Police are investigating the reported burglary of a house in Queen St, Mosgiel.

A resident contacted police at 2.20am on Monday to say someone had entered the house through an unsecured bedroom window and taken a sound system worth $50.
