More than 10,000 people attended the recent "Off the Wall:
World of Wearable Art Up Close" show at the Otago Museum, and
entry charges came close to meeting costs, organisers said.
It had been feared the touring show, which involved sizeable
costs to bring to Dunedin, could have cost the museum about
$30,000.
The show ultimately cost about $8000 to stage, a recent Otago
Museum Trust Board meeting heard.
Collections, research and experience director Clare Wilson
said the touring show had been "very well received".
Most visitors had been women over the age of 30.
Visitors had responded positively to a "really impressive"
show, but museum organisers had been somewhat surprised it
had not appealed to a wider age range, she said.
Organisers always carefully analysed the costs of bringing
shows to Dunedin, but it was also important Otago people were
given the chance to see some key exhibitions they would not
otherwise experience, she said.
