Teenager in court over dairy robbery

A 19-year-old Oamaru man facing aggravated robbery charges after an incident on Friday night was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Dunedin District Court on Saturday.

He was charged after the knifepoint robbery of the Meadowbank Dairy, on the corner of State Highway 1 and Don St, Oamaru, at 7.30pm on Friday.

The alleged offender was discovered by police at 8.15pm hiding in a residential property "a few hundred metres" from the dairy. Police found a knife believed to have been used in the robbery and recovered items allegedly stolen from the dairy, including synthetic cannabis products.

The man was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court tomorrow over the robbery and other unrelated matters.
