A hearing of the Dunedin City Council's application to
replace existing permits to discharge Dunedin's stormwater
into the sea has been delayed and is not expected before the
end of the year.
The city council has applied to the Otago Regional Council
for four permits to discharge stormwater through multiple
outlets to Second Beach, Andersons Bay Inlet, the Upper Otago
Harbour Basin and Port Chalmers. Terms of 35 years are being
sought for each permit.
Seven submissions were received on the application, five in
opposition and two in support, subject to conditions.
City council staff confirmed the application was on hold at
their request, to enable consultation with submitters on
matters they had raised concerns about before hearing process
begins.
