Mosgiel was more like ''Mosgrill'' yesterday, with
temperatures soaring into the low 30s during the annual
Mosgiel Christmas Market Day.
Mosgiel Business Association president and event organiser
Sarah Nitis said the temperature on the town clock reached
31degC by 1pm and the majority of those attending stayed in
the shade of the verandas rather than wandering up Gordon Rd,
which had been closed to traffic.''
It was more like Mosgrill than Mosgiel.''
Mrs Nitis estimated about 3000 people attended throughout the
day, despite the sweltering heat.''
It was a great opportunity for people to do some Christmas
shopping and have fun with their kids while applying sun
block and drinking lots of fluid.''
It's been very successful. I'm thrilled with the turnout.''
Everyone seems to be having a good time.''
The event was the first of several to be held in the town
this week by the Mosgiel Business Association.
Late night shopping nights would be held in Mosgiel on
Wednesday and Friday and were aimed at getting Taieri
residents into the Christmas spirit, she said.
