Church buys club

A Dunedin church group has bought the former United Services Community Club in South Dunedin.

The United Services and Community Club Trust, the charitable trust that ran the club, was put into liquidation in mid-2011.

Liquidator Ian Nellies, of Insolvency Management, said the former clubrooms on the corner of Prince Albert and Bay View Rds, next to the Montecillo Veterans Home and Hospital, was sold to Christian organisation the Dunedin Church of Christ.

The settlement date was mid-February, he said.

Ex-Royal Navalmen's Association of New Zealand Dunedin branch president Brian Heads said the building was sold around Christmas, but the liquidator had not been in contact.

''He hasn't got on to us yet, which he'll have to do, because there's got to be a certain amount of residual money floating around.''

Colliers International Dunedin commercial sales broker Bill Brown said the property was advertised for sale at $385,000 and sold at that price.
