Constable Jaimee McDonald supplies a high-visibility vest to
motorcyclist Neil Croft, as part of an effort to raise
two-wheel awareness among Dunedin road users. Dozens of free
bright-yellow vests, supplied by the Accident Compensation
Corporation, were given to motorcyclists and cyclists.
''Initially, when motorcyclists were stopped by police, they
were a bit worried, but everyone seems supportive of the
initiative,'' Sergeant Chris George said.
''We want them to be able to insulate themselves from trouble
by making themselves highly visible.''
It appeared many Dunedin cyclists wore visibility vests, but
''we want to spread the word among the motorcycle community,
given the traditional black leather gear can be hard to
see''.
