Two people were injured when a car crashed on State Highway
1, about 20km north of Dunedin last night.
The middle-aged couple were travelling south on the Northern
Motorway towards Dunedin shortly after 8pm when their
late-model small car crashed into a ditch, about 100m past
the Donalds Hill Rd turn-off. Acting Senior Sergeant Ed
Baker, of Dunedin, said the English couple were travelling
from Christchurch to Dunedin.
Emergency services spent more than 30 minutes stabilising the
pair and cutting them from the car. The woman was carried to
an ambulance on a stretcher while the man, whose head was
heavily bandaged, walked to an ambulance with the assistance
of medical staff.
A St John spokesman said the man received minor injuries. The
woman received moderate injuries.
The incident was attended by two units from the Willowbank
and Waitati fire stations and two ambulances.
Traffic was delayed for about an hour.
