Three generations of the May family travelled to Dunedin from
Timaru and Oamaru to watch Otago beat Wellington in the HRV
Cup final yesterday.
Blue May, a former Dunedin resident, donned a blue flower lei
alongside his son Brendon, whose rugby shirt was at least an
Otago one.
A curly blonde wig completed Brendon's ensemble, although his
son - 17-year-old Tarris - was more comfortable in plain
clothes.
Tarris' cousin Harry May (12), meanwhile, looked the part by
wearing a viking hat, blue wig and blue and yellow feather
boa.
He said the only female member of the group had distanced
herself from them.
''She's hiding in a tree!''The Mays were part of a capacity
crowd of 3230 spectators who provided plenty of cheer.
Couples lounged on grass banks, friends shared picnics and a
few rowdy fans soothed their raw vocal cords with cool
beverages.
As parents watched the professionals, children played their
own cricket in front of a row of Portaloos, next to a sausage
sizzle and hot-dog truck.
Their tiny wooden bats and plastic wickets were later
autographed by victorious Volts players.
