Vintage showcase planned

Vintage evening wear and formal fashion from around the world will be on show at a ''black tie'' event as part of iD Dunedin Fashion Week in March.

The evening function will involve Darnell Collection garments from Australia, England, France and the United States, brought to New Zealand by Australian curator Charlotte Smith.

She inherited the collection from her American godmother Doris Darnell, and it continued to be Australia's largest private collection of vintage clothing and accessories.

The Black Tie from the Darnell Collection event will be held at the Golden Centre Mall on March 13.

Dresses set to feature spanned a range of decades and associated trends from the 1930s to the 1980s.

Outfits would be accessorised with selected jewellery, handbags, hats, gloves and a 1960s-inspired Stephen Jones hat in recognition of this year's iD international guest.

Ms Smith said some of the formal wear had never before been exhibited and was ''priceless''.

''On show will be the most amazing ball gowns, long formal cocktail dresses, jump suits and outfits worn by models like Veruschka in the 1960s,'' she said.

The curator was an international iD guest in 2011.

Modern New Zealand fashion would also be showcased at the black tie event, for which tickets are now available.
