Dunedin police are reminding motorists to slow down near
schools and parents to park safely when picking up and dropping
off children.
Dunedin road policing manager Senior Sergeant Phil McDouall
said the most important times for motorists to slow down were
between 7.30am and 9am and from 3pm to 4.30pm when children
were dropped off and collected from school.
The three-week ''Speed Kills Kids'' road safety campaign
targeted motorists outside primary and intermediate schools
who sped, parked on double yellow lines and stayed longer
than allowed in time-restricted car parks, Snr Sgt McDouall
said.
''We get a lot of speeding motorists around some of the
schools and kids come out of school and see Mum across the
road and just race across unaware of the environment around
them.''
