Parents urged to dob in their kids

Parents should be aware of what their children are up to and report any suspicious behaviour, after three teens were caught breaking into cars this week.

Police apprehended the trio in Hargest Cres after they broke into several cars in the St Kilda area on Thursday night, Acting Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said.

One of the teens would appear in the Dunedin Youth Court next week, while the other two had been referred to Youth Aid.

Snr Sgt Ben Butterfield said property from three cars had been returned to the owners, but police were still trying to return other recovered items.

Anyone whose car was broken into in the Hargest Cres area was urged to contact Dunedin police.

The arrests served as a reminder for people not to leave property in their vehicles, but also for parents to know their children's whereabouts, he said.

Parents should question their children if they returned home with items that did not belong to them, and could contact police or anonymous tip-off line Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
