Police are promising to be out in force this weekend, with
thousands of sport fans expected in the city.
Senior Sergeant Phil McDouall has a simple message for those
attending matches at Forsyth Barr Stadium this weekend:
''Behave yourself.''
Sixteen officers were rostered to work at the stadium for the
Highlanders v Chiefs encounter tonight, and a similar number
would be at the Warriors v Brisbane clash tomorrow night.
Officers would be supporting security staff, while additional
staff would be rostered through the night to monitor
''after-match activities''.
Snr Sgt McDouall said people should make transport
arrangements, such as nominating a sober driver, and he
warned a specialist traffic unit would be out to pull over
any drink-drivers.
Sports fans were also advised not to turn up intoxicated to
matches as they would be refused entry.
Anyone evicted from the ground could be trespassed from the
venue for up to two years.
