Palmerston and Waikouaiti residents needing a ride to Dunedin
for a health appointment can now catch the St John health
shuttle.
St John community care manager Pam Hall said the shuttle had
been travelling through the two centres on Tuesdays and
Thursdays for just over a year, but the service first needed
to gauge demand in the more remote centres.
Pick-up points included Alexandra, Omakau and Ranfurly. Now,
it was felt the service had room for those in East Otago.
The shuttle to Dunedin passed through Milton from Central
Otago on the other three weekdays.
''Our health shuttle is focused on providing a service to the
community.
''Many people have difficulties reaching health appointments,
either because of transportation issues or financial
reasons,'' she said.
A $15 donation to St John for the return journey was
''encouraged''.
Pick-up times were 9.45am in Palmerston and 10am in
Waikouaiti. The shuttle leaves Dunedin on its return journey
at 3pm.
