A southbound lane of State Highway 1 at Lookout Point in
Dunedin is blocked by a jackknifed tanker after it skidded on
diesel which had spilled down the hill towards Caversham
yesterday afternoon.
Police are investigating the nature of the spill which also
caused another truck to skid. Police and the Fire Service
were called to the incident about 1.15pm.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Ross said a tanker heading up the hill
slipped on the diesel and jack-knifed across the left
southbound lane.
Shortly afterwards, another truck skidded on the slick, he
said.
Traffic was delayed while the diesel was cleaned off the road
and the affected area covered with grit.
No-one was injured in the incident, and no other vehicles
were affected, Snr Sgt Bruce Ross said.
It was not known how the diesel had spilled.
