Dunedin skateboarders took advantage of the opportunity to do some unfettered skating in the Otago Daily Times stand at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday.

Obstacles were brought out of storage for the event, organised as part of Youth Week.

Skaters ranging in age from 11 to 40 participated alongside each other. Dunedin Bike, Board and Blade Trust spokesman Craig Strong said it was the fifth event of the season and had attracted some of the biggest numbers, with about 30 skaters attending.

''It's really cool.''

Given weather at this time of year was often ''sketchy'', it was great to have a covered area to hold the event, he said. It was also good to see such a mix of ages interacting.
