Valuables in view bring warnings

Dozens of people have been contacted by Dunedin police after leaving valuables in plain sight in their cars.

Following a spate of recent car break-ins at inner-city car parks, police have been leaving flyers on vehicles and contacting the owners, Acting Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said.

More than 40 vehicle owners had been contacted, he said.

Items targeted included laptops, electronics and handbags. Motorists were surprised to receive a call from police, but appreciated their advice, he said.
