Success at Toitu

Dramatic vignettes at the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum's formed part of a recent successful school-linked education programme.

The museum's target of 6000 school pupils for the financial year ending on June 30 had been exceeded, with 7519 pupils participating in the museum's Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) programmes, museum organisers said this week.

The LEOTC programmes are delivered through a contract between the museum and the Ministry of Education.

In a report tabled at Wednesday's museum board meeting, museum director Linda Wigley said that the favourable outcome had been achieved despite the museum having been closed for about five months of the financial year.

The museum reopened to the public last December after its $37.5 million redevelopment.
