About one in nine Dunedin households recycled an unwanted
television during the TV TakeBack programme.
Ministry for the Environment operations manager Glenn Wigley
said the Government subsidised the cost of recycling unwanted
televisions at four collection sites in Dunedin.
Between March 25 and August 21, 5173 televisions were
collected, he said.
''We are very pleased with the response from those in
Dunedin, because televisions contain valuable materials that
can be reused in new products, and hazardous ones that can be
harmful if released into soil or waterways.''
Unwanted televisions should continue to be recycled and the
best recycling options were at www.tvtakeback.govt.nz, he said.
