If you think you've got star quality and you want to bring
your acting skills out from behind closed doors, Kaikorai
Primary School pupils are offering a cameo role in their
big-screen film The Quest to anyone with $100 in their
Since the start of the year, the school's 307 pupils have
been involved in making the film, which highlights the
school's values - kindness, aspiration, independence and
Principal Simon Clarke said the plot centres on two main
characters who do not embrace these values, and follows them
through a portal into different worlds where they are taught
the importance of the values.
Pupils ''brainstormed'' the plot and the script, and then
began filming at the school and other locations, including
Larnach Castle, the Otago Museum butterfly house, Dunedin
beaches and op shops, he said.
''All 307 pupils will feature in the movie in some way.
''Most have a close-up and a line.''
Mr Clarke said the pupils were editing the film and adding
music, and it was planned for the premiere to be at the
Regent Theatre on October 30.
The school was also hoping to raise about $6000 using
PledgeMe, an internet site where people can give money to
support innovative projects.
''We're hoping to raise $6000 so that no-one will have to pay
an admission fee. This way, there will be no barriers to
anyone in our community being able to go.''
Mr Clarke said the pupils were also offering a cameo role in
the film for any budding actor who wants to show their
''$100 can buy you the role, but if Tom Cruise comes along,
the price might go up,'' he said.
