Volunteers from Our Seas Our Future (OSOF) picked up
about 600 litres of rubbish in two hours for Conservation Week
Seven OSOF volunteers were dedicated enough to brave the cold
southwesterly to help keep Dunedin beautiful by collecting
rubbish along John Wilson Ocean Dr at the weekend.
They were assisted in the clean-up by the St Kilda Surf Life
Saving Club, and Monarch Wildlife Cruises donated a family
trip to give away to one lucky volunteer.
OSOF founder Noel Jhinku said the clean-ups were about more
than just cleaning up our environment.
''They also bring together like-minded members of the
community, and spark conversations with bystanders who see
volunteers cleaning up,'' he said.
''These encounters can spread through word of mouth and
encourage people to start their own environmental projects.''
