Ministry to help Ashburn Clinic

The Ministry of Health will work with Ashburn Clinic, in Dunedin, to find a solution to the private psychiatric hospital's funding issues, the ministry said after a meeting with clinic representatives.

''We will be working closely with them during the next few weeks as we consider viable options to assist their situation,'' sector capability and implementation deputy director-general Cathy O'Malley said in an email.

''A very positive meeting was held with Ashburn Clinic where they were able to outline their financial position,'' she said.

Last week, immediate past chairman Bruce Smaill said he feared for the clinic's future due to finances. New chairman Lindsay Brown called the Thursday meeting constructive.
