Loud bangs will be heard at Otago Girls' High School when the
armed offenders squad takes part in a training exercise in
Dunedin this afternoon.
AOS commander Inspector Jason Guthrie said the squad
routinely trained for various scenarios and it would be using
blanks during the exercise.
Other emergency services and general duties police staff will
also be involved, as will a small number of pupils and
Residents have been advised about the training, and parents
of children at the school have also been informed and have
given their consent.
''We're mindful that this kind of training has the potential
to alarm nearby residents and businesses and, for that
reason, we are making every possible effort to notify people
that it's happening,'' Insp Guthrie said.
