'Distinctive' SPCA donation box stolen

A ''distinctive'' donation box was stolen from the Otago SPCA - the first to be taken from the front counter of the Otago animal welfare charity, executive officer Sophie McSkimming says.

The replacement donation box ''unfortunately'' had to be chained to the front desk, Ms McSkimming said.

She was unsure how much money was in the stolen donation box.

''It's really really old ... It has a dog and a lamb sitting on top of a blue container.''

The donation slot and the words ''thank you'' were in front of the dog.

''If you've got it, we would love it back, because we are a charity and we struggle for money and rely on donations and people's generosity to run this place. We would really like it back.''

There were only two of the boxes and the other one was on her desk.

She suspected the theft occurred on Saturday, during the office opening hours from 1pm to 3pm.
