The Glengarry MacDonells will celebrate the 150th anniversary
of the clan's arrival in Otago this weekend.
More than 80 descendants of Catherine Jackson (nee MacDonell)
and her brother Lachlan MacDonell will gather in Dunedin to
mark the arrival of their forebears in 1863.
Descendants from New Zealand, Australia, England and
Argentina would attend the reunion, one of the organisers,
Heather McLay, said yesterday. Guests will include former
Dunedin Labour MP Brian MacDonell, of Tasmania, Australia.
The reunion started last night with a get-together at the
Dunedin Rugby Club and guests will be welcomed by a piper to
the registration at the clubrooms this morning.
''There's something about hearing a piper in Dunedin that
does something to your blood,'' Mrs McLay said.
A clan dinner and haggis ceremony will be held tonight, with
a thanksgiving service and bus tour of sites of historic
family interest tomorrow.
