Several lucky Silverstream School pupils showed up to the Mosgiel school in style yesterday.

Girls Trinidy Cookson, Piper Smart, Jessie Cowie and Jasmyne Smith were flown in by a Helicopters Otago helicopter, while Jaden Grant arrived in a St John ambulance driven by ambulance officer Leeann Smith, and Zaine Murdoch arrived in a Ferrari 355 Spider, driven by Greg Smart.

Other pupils arrived in a fire engine and a police car. The vehicles were provided free of charge by the local community. The pupils were the winners of the school's ''awesome rides raffle'', a fundraiser for the school's fair later this month.

Principal Elizabeth Cleverley said the whole school was excited for the winners, and when the bell went at 9am everybody went to class ''definitely buzzing''.

She said the pupils had been well-behaved and safety-conscious when the vehicles arrived, and that contributed to a ''fantastic'' atmosphere. About $2500 was raised for the fair.
