Dunedin turned up the temperature for the annual Outram raft
race yesterday, but some competitors were left with a sinking
Eight teams took part in the event, which started on the
Taieri River just above Outram Glen, on rafts made out out of
barrels, bicycles and crates, among other materials.
As if the race itself and the somewhat makeshift nature of
the rafts were not challenge enough, participants also had to
endure being pelted with water balloons and eggs by amused
onlookers, organiser Carl Gardner said.
