Delay fixing leak 'unfortunate'

The contractor for the University of Otago's $40 million building at Forsyth Barr Stadium has acknowledged difficulties finding the cause of a leaking roof.

The admission from Naylor Love chief executive Rick Herd comes after university property services director Barry MacKay said it had been having ''tense'' discussions with the contractor over the time it was taking to remedy the building's defects.

Mr Herd acknowledged it had been unfortunate how long it had taken to sort out the issue.

''It's taken a long time to figure out what's been causing the intermittent leak, but we have managed to do that ... and we are now undertaking remedial action on the roof.''

It was not responsible for the issue of noise leaking from the gym to office space, he said.

Arrow strategic development manager Stephen Cairns, said the university had no problems with its work as the project manager.

''We are working hand in hand with the university to get those matters rectified,'' he said.
