Otago school bands successful

Two Otago bands had success at the 2013 Rockshop Bandquest.

Arrowtown Primary School band the Freckled Mangos was second in the event, for intermediate and primary pupils. Results were announced on Monday.

The Freckled Mangos won $1000 of equipment for their school music department and also won the best original song award, for their single Don't Contradict Me.

Balmacewen Intermediate pupils Louis Freeman and Henry Dickson, of Stolen Thoughts, won the best original lyrics award for their song My Own Eyes.

The third national bandquest drew 140 entries from Stewart Island to Whangaparaoa and was judged by Leroy Clampitt, from Bangladesh, and pop artist K'Lee McNabb.

The event was won by Avondale Intermediate 10-piece rhythm and blues band the Elements, from Auckland.
