Arrests after party gets 'out of hand'

A 39-year-old Dunedin man faces charges of assaulting police and obstruction, following the closure of a massive house party by police in Calton Hill on Saturday night.

Police were called to the party at a Mariner St residence, at which there were about 200 people, and shut it down about midnight.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said the party ‘‘got out of hand'' and three male revellers aged 39, 19 and 17 were arrested.

Both teenagers were given pre-charge warnings for disorderly behaviour, he said.

The 39-year-old was due to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Thursday.

Snr Sgt Aitken said the incident resulting in a charge of assaulting police was not serious.
