Construction work starts for $6 million garden project

Photo by Craig Baxter.Construction work has begun on a major rebuild of the Dunedin Botanic Garden's plant nursery and propagation facilities in Lovelock Ave.

The $6 million project includes the construction of a new propagation building, glasshouses, nursery and boiler house between the Opoho Bowling Club and the car park beside Opoho Park.

The relocation of the plant nursery and propagation facilities from the upper garden to the new site will allow, in the long term, other development opportunities in the upper garden.

The long-term development concept includes a new wetland garden, visitor centre and cafe.
