Roundtable NZ president Grant Gibson, of Mosgiel, and BNZ staff (from left), Jay Devlin, Wanita Tautuam and Kathy Morrison pose with a massive pile of Christmas presents donated by Taieri residents in the past week.

The mystery presents were placed under the Mosgiel Roundtable wishing tree at the BNZ last week, and by Friday, a pile of gifts awaited delivery to the Mosgiel Community Foodbank.

The gifts were paired with cards for children and would be delivered to families, along with food parcels made with goods donated in last week's food drive, Mr Gibson said.

All but five of the cards were taken by Friday and more than 170 children in the area would receive a gift this year, he said.

''[The response] has just been phenomenal; it shows again the amazing generosity of Mosgiel people.''

The wishing tree was a new idea, but would definitely return next year, Mr Gibson said.
