Fridge man Rob Cope has arrived home in Wellington after six weeks of hitchhiking around New Zealand with a major kitchen appliance.

Mr Cope arrived back in Wellington on Monday night, with his 1.5m travelling companion, a Simpson brand fridge.

The 40-year-old Wellington builder was in Dunedin for three days last month, when the fridge received its ''Simpson'' nickname.

''After the article on the front page of the ODT, everybody was calling it 'Simpson', so it seemed like the sensible thing to do,'' Mr Dale said, with a chuckle, yesterday. The pair spent 46 days travelling 4539km around the country to highlight the importance of communication for New Zealand men.

''It's been an amazing journey. I have met so many inspirational people and had some great discussions about Kiwi men and what makes us tick,'' Mr Dale said.

''To finish the tour off, the fridge was plugged in to see if it had survived its journey through New Zealand and, to everyone's amazement, it had. The world's most travelled fridge is now plugged in and resting in my kitchen doing what it was made to do.''
