'Silk to Silver' success

More than 26,400 people visited Otago Museum's exhibition ''China's Minority Cultures: Silk to Silver, Collections from the Shanghai Museum''.

The exhibition featured items from 23 of China's 55 officially recognised minority cultures.

Otago Museum director Dr Ian Griffin said market research conducted for the exhibition indicated that visitors considered it informative and engaging, with an average rating of eight out of 10.

The three-month show, which closed on October 28, was the first exhibition devoted to China's minority cultures which the Shanghai Museum had exhibited overseas.

All exhibition items had since been taken down and returned to the team at the Shanghai Museum, Dr Griffin said.
