Donna and Mike Holley with new arrival Mila, Dunedin's first baby for 2014, and their sons, Brodie (6, left), and Liam (4). Mila Jean Grace Holley was an unexpected New Year's Day baby girl.

A relaxed Mrs Holley said Mila had not been due until January 17.

She was born at home in Fairfield at 7.41am yesterday, weighing in at a healthy 3.8kg (8lb 6oz).

Mrs Holley said everything had gone well, the baby arriving after a one-hour and 29-minute labour.

Mr Holley said there were no concerns as the baby was perfectly healthy, after a clockwork delivery.

''We woke up, we got ready and we had a baby.''

Mila's was the couple's third home birth, although the first one, of son Brodie (6), who arrived very quickly, was not intended to be.
