Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious crash which
has left a 25-year-old Dunedin student fighting for her life.
The female pedestrian sustained life threatening injuries
after being struck by a petrol tanker with trailer in central
Dunedin this morning.
Emergency services were called to the corner of Frederick and
Castle St, following reports a pedestrian had been hit by an
Allied Petroleum tanker and trailer at 8.25am.
Senior Sergeant Mark Crawford, of Dunedin, said the petrol
tanker was travelling west on Frederick St and turning south
into Castle St.
The vehicle then struck the pedestrian when she was at the
crossing, he said.

The incident was attended by emergency services, including
the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit and police
A diversion around Frederick St was lifted at noon.
A Fire Service spokeswoman said fire appliances were sent to
the scene as a precaution.
Anyone who witnessed the incident and had not been spoken to
by police was urged to contact Dunedin Police on 471-4800.
