A 51-year-old woman was flown to Dunedin Hospital with suspected crush injuries to her chest after the quad bike she was riding rolled on farm land near Evansdale.

Police District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd, of Dunedin, said the woman was checking animals about 5pm yesterday when the motorcycle rolled on top of her.

Emergency services were called about 5.30pm and she was flown to Dunedin Hospital in the Otago Regional Rescue helicopter.

Snr Sgt Lloyd said the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment had been advised of the accident.

He also took the opportunity to caution those using quad bikes of the dangers.

''We're in a semi-rural environment. People using these kinds of machines need to take more care, and events in the last few weeks reinforce that.''
