Auction to benefit pupils

An auction to raise funds for a fun day for St Leonards School pupils and a memorial for Bradley (9) and Ellen (6) Livingstone opens today.

Organiser Tim Foley said the more than 80 auction items included a walk-on role on the television programme Shortland Street, a retreat for four people in Hanmer Springs and the chance to meet the cast of the television programme 7 Days at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Mr Foley said the money raised would fund a ''fun-filled day'' to return the smiles to pupils after the double homicide of their classmates earlier this month.

''A day not to think of the hard stuff.''

Some of the funds would go to a memorial initiated by the school for Bradley and Ellen.

Mr Foley was ''blown away'' by the auction items given by former pupils, businesses, sporting organisations and St Leonards residents. Other auction items included original art, an electric bike, a chance to ''hijack'' a radio show, a ride in a Porsche GT3 race car and a cricket bat signed by the Black Caps.

The Trade Me auctions opened today and close next Wednesday.

Another planned fundraiser was a return bike ride from the St Leonards Yacht Club to the stadium on Sunday, which Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull would open and ride in.
