Best energy use awards

The Government is searching for the best energy projects in New Zealand.

The 2014 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) Awards, to be held at the Auckland Museum in May, will recognise the country's top energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

EECA chief executive Mike Underhill said the awards were open to public and private sector organisations.

''Whether it's a large corporate, small farming operation, community group or smart transport operators, our awards aim to celebrate those who are changing the way we use energy, creating a healthier and more productive New Zealand. I strongly encourage any organisation in Otago that has focused on improving energy use to enter.''

The 10 award categories comprise transport, large business, small to medium business, public sector, renewable energy, innovation, community, energy management, an energy leadership award for individuals and the Christchurch energy champion award to recognise positive energy use in the Canterbury rebuild.

Entry forms are available at www.eecabusiness.govt.nz/awards-2014.

Entries close on February 10.
