The weather gods had the final say at Party in the Park in Mosgiel yesterday.
Organiser Bill Feather said the event was well attended despite the cold wind that blew across Mosgiel Memorial Gardens Park.
However, the organisers were forced to end the event early when the rain arrived about 3.45pm.
He estimated between 1000 and 2000 people had attended.
''Given the weather, it's well supported,'' he said.
''A lot of the stallholders spent more time holding their tents to the ground rather than serving customers.''
The numbers surged about noon and the park had looked ''quite vibrant''.
The crowd was bigger than last year's, with some stallholders spilling on to the street, which made for ''a colourful sort of day''.
For the first time, the Otago Axemen's Club held a demonstration at the event, which ''added an extra dimension''.
Mosgiel and District Lions stallholder John Bone said he was pleased with the turnout.
The Lions' stall ''had a fairly long queue'' and the group had run out of hot chips.
